Fire Door Installations – Training Day Recap

Barrow Joinery Construction recently hosted a dedicated Fire Door Installations Training Day for our team and invited clients. The session underlined why correctly specified, installed and maintained fire doors are critical to building safety, and how good practice saves lives and protects property.

Why fire doors matter

Fire doors are a first line of defence—containing fire and smoke, protecting escape routes and buying vital time for evacuation. Getting the details right (from certification to clearances and ironmongery) is essential for performance and compliance.

Led by an industry expert

The day was led by Duncan Brickhill, who brought deep practical experience to the room. Attendees benefited from a balanced mix of theory and hands-on demonstrations, making complex requirements easy to apply on site.

What the training covered

  • Installation essentials: Correct frame prep, packers, fixings, sealing, and required gaps/clearances.
  • Compliance & documentation: Understanding certification, door set labelling, test evidence, and record-keeping.
  • Hardware & sealing: Approved hinges, closers, latches, intumescent/smoke seals, and compatibility.
  • Inspection & maintenance: Routine checks, common defects, and when to repair vs replace.
  • On-site demonstrations: Real-world fitting techniques, tolerance checks, and snag-avoidance tips.

Practical takeaways

Participants left with clear checklists, example inspection forms and a step-by-step approach to ensuring each door set is installed and maintained to the expected standard. The day strengthened competence and confidence across our delivery teams and client stakeholders.

Our commitment to safety & quality

This initiative reflects Barrow Joinery Construction’s ongoing commitment to safe, compliant, high-quality workmanship. By investing in training and knowledge-sharing, we help our clients meet their responsibilities and keep buildings safer for everyone.
